John Jaeckel: Hawks at Coyotes GameDay Preview
- John Jaeckel

Thanks for the game dag thread JJ. Do you know when we can expect to see Roszival back in the lineup? I thought he was playing better than Brookbank.

Hopefully we get revenge for being eliminated from the playoffs and take 2 points in regulation.

The Coyotes give the Hawks trouble because they expose the main area the Hawks need to address, the need for 2 additional big, physical forwards to balance the Hawks attack with a dump and chase / board battle game. For all the talk about the need for a face off guy, I think the bigger need are those bangers who can give the Hawks a more dynamic and versatile group of forwards, now if one of those forwards can take faceoffs as well, that’s icing on the cake. We don’t need a specialist of any type, be it an enforcer, faceoff specialist, powerplay specialist, penalty killing specialist etc. Ideally every guy should be able to play in most, if not all, situations to make the team that much more dangerous and hard to play against and defend.

A big guy who can skate, bang and win draws would be nice and I have reason to believe the Hawks want that.

They are quite loose and that is a big reason they are playing so well.

I know its not smart but I would love to see someone hit Torres with a cheap suspendable hit that puts Torres out forever.

F Dave Tippit too. The Coyotes want Torres to be Torres. Torres gets players off his game because he can end someones career every shift.

You think Emery gets the start tonight because he is the 2nd toughest guy on the team in anticipation of a line brawl ? Lol.

Actually I'd like to see a clean open ice hit to the chest, knocking the wind out of him. As he lies in a daze, a 'Hawk player or two can skate by and simply say, "a$$hole".

I also agree with others, karma will catch up to him.

EDIT: Rozner on The Score this morning torched Tippett too; about the coaching staff sitting Torres down and talking to him, like this was the first time the pr!ck ever did something. Think Barry's exact words were, "Dave Tippett can bite me".

Hawks 29th in hits Yotes 1st...hope we don't have another long night.

Good to see Keith jump right in after the hit on Mayers the other night. Regardless of the severity of the hit - loved the mentality that the team wasn't going to take any crap and stick up for each other.

Both Sharpie and Bickell have been throwing checks nice to see. Especially for Sharpie since he's slumping for a while. I recall in the cup year the game in Boston where the Hawks were down and Sharp threw a check at Chara of all people and put him into the boards...it lit the fuse and brought them back in the game.

I loved Stan's pass the buck comments the other day in regard to the team...basically here's what we have and if we don't win its not my fault. A bona fide #2 center and a power forward certainly would help this team. Mayers may be long in the tooth and slow, but he's still winning draws and after Tazer that's been it.

As far as Tippett and Torres they're both garbage - all this crap about a hockey play last year is BS. I'd love to see Bollig nail his butt tonight we'll see what happens.

I actually bought that on my iPhone...will I be able to use it on my iPad, too? I was just a tad worried that Madison might be too close to the Hawks viewing area and get blacked out.

I like it, but Torres still got up pretty easy.

Would like to see a fight like what Probert did to Kimble once. Gotta go find that link.

After the Cup victory, the squad seemed to miss having forwards that were able to get back in the attack zone and pressure the opposing defenders with checks...it was as if the Ladd, Eager, Burish subtraction actually gave the opposition as "easy out" of their zone.
I just don't see that as being the case so far this season.
I see the Hawks forwards "getting there."

The all-situation player you want to acquire just isn't available at this juncture, and surprisingly many of these guys, even if not expected to be scoring options, get paid much more than you would suspect.
The perfect candidate is signed long term at 3.1 million until 2017 and he is Martin Hanzal...if you can get 15 goals and 30 points, you take it and feel comfortable with the other side of the guy's game.

I just don't see these all-around players dropping into availabilty, and even the deadline means competition for them and over paying...
Maybe next year? (Becasue the hawks are gonna lose some of their soon to be UFAs, right?

Rookie side bar:

Mark Schiefele sent to juniors, and
Ryan Johansen sent to Springfirld AHL

Proof that you gotta try and not rush your Danault's Teravainen's, McNeill's and Rockfords...

Not sure

the only games that blacked out here in Canada are games that are on National broadcasts like TSN,CBC OR NBC and shown here

if not I can watch them on the IPad

Download the app for IPad and you should be good to go

I hope Seabrook pulls a Scott Stephens on Torres tonight and just mauls him.
